202 Lockout 1, 2 & R
Instructional time “Level 1” 202-1 – 3.5 hours
Instructional time “Level 1” 202-2 – 6.5 hours
Instructional time “Review” 202-R – 1.5 hours

Target Audience

The lockout program is intended for workers and supervisors that may be required to provide maintenance or repair work on a piece of machinery/equipment.

Learning Objective

The primary objective of this program is to demystify lockout, provide for a clear understanding for the need to lockout and to help workers in making an educated decision when working on a piece of machinery/equipment.

Learning Outcome

The outcome of this class will enable participants to:

  • Discuss the importance of locking out machinery and equipment.
  • Understand the dangers of hazardous energy.
  • Discuss when lockout is required.
  • Understand basic and group lockout procedure.
  • Discuss employer and workers responsibilities for safe lockout.

Delivery Method

The Hazard recognition and control class is divided into three parts:

  • Theory
  • Table top exercise &
  • Practical case study

Participants will participate in a lockout hazard assessment and discuss safe work practice for locking out machinery/equipment specific to their workplace

Lockout “Level 2” 202-2 – 6.5 hours

The level two program was specially designed for supervisors and professional safety workers. We will expand on the topics mentioned above, a typical lockout procedure will be produced and train-the-trainer tips will be given.

Lockout “Review” 202-R – 1.5 hours

The review program is designed for workers with a previous understanding of lockout procedure. This session will expand on existing knowledge and will provide an overview of the components of the 202-1 & 2 program.
