107 Occupational Safety for Small Employers

Target Audience

This course is ideal for small business owners and people wanting to start a new business in British Columbia.

Learning Objective

The aim of this program is to help participants to:

  • Exercise and understand due diligence.
  • Carry out their responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Meet and understand their legal responsibility.
  • Understand how the WCB works.

Learning Outcome

The outcome of this class will enable participants to:

  • Explain regulatory requirements relevant to the responsibilities of employers, supervisor, workers and others.
  • Identify the elements of an OHS program and key factors in the practice of due diligence.
  • Apply strategies to manage claims and control WCB costs.
  • Understand the roles and functions of the WCB officers and cooperate with them to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements and workplace health and safety.

Delivery Method

The Occupational Safety for Small Employers class is divided into three parts:

  • Theory
  • Table top exercise &
  • Practical case study

Participants will participate completing a preliminary company-specific need assessment to comply with regulations.
